So, here's a little confession: I have a soft spot for toys (matchbox cars, legos, funkos, dolls, and more). I enjoy playing with them; it reminds me of when I was younger. This has allowed me to discover a new way to appreciate them through photography. Toys are great to shoot for several reasons: one, it's already full size, so it doesn't take much space, which is great because that means you do not need a ton of space to shoot, and finally because I have the toy I can set up the scene again if I want but better yet I can change it up quickly.
So, step outside the excellent opportunity for creativity in a small space. If I wanted to photograph a real car, first I had to find it and then talk to them about it. But this allows me to think about the shot(s) I want. I can set them up, taking my time to play in the space and see what fits where. Then comes the real fun-playing with the lighting, where things start to pop and change for me, sparking excitement and eagerness to experiment with your own photography.
Now, let's take a visual journey. Some of the shots from my little shoot with a 1964 Impala.
