Larches

The crisp mountain air, the winding road, and the gold of the larches—fall along Highway 20 was pure magic this year. I left early, chasing the light and that fleeting autumn color. Each twist of the highway brought a new view: mist over the valleys, the sun casting long shadows, and those incredible bursts of yellow and orange standing against the dark evergreens.

This trip was more about scouting than anything else—finding the perfect spots where the larches were most vibrant and planning future shoots when conditions might be just right. I stopped often, stepping out of the car to take notes, feel the ground beneath my boots, and hear leaves rustling in the breeze.

Though I mainly scouted, I couldn't resist capturing a few images to share. Photographing them was about patience—waiting for the right light, the perfect moment when the wind paused, and everything was still. It felt like a dance, a dialogue with the landscape, with each shot attempting to capture the view and feeling of being there.

This year, Highway 20 was more than just a drive. It was a reminder of how brief and beautiful the changing seasons are and how photography allows us to hold onto those golden moments just a little longer.
