Donuts and Photos

Last week, I ventured to Vancouver, WA, with a plan to capture the Columbia River and its entry into Washington. But my journey had an unexpected and delightful twist—a stop at Voodoo Donuts! Though I know they have a location in Seattle (now), finding one in Vancouver with a massive parking lot, no crowds, and an enormous apple fritter was a trifecta of wins. (Did I mention that the fritter was both gigantic and delicious?)

The Photography Adventure

Donuts aside, the real highlight of the trip was spending time with my camera by the Columbia River Interstate Bridge. I wanted to capture the bridge at sunrise and sunset to observe how the shifting light interacted with its structure. The interplay of sunlight and shadows gave the bridge a dynamic presence, with shadows adding depth and definition that transformed the familiar architecture into something extraordinary.

Playing with Long Exposures

In addition to chasing the light, I experimented with long exposures. This technique allowed me to capture the reflections of light in the water, creating a sense of movement and texture. The shimmering water and glowing bridge combined to create images that felt alive, with subtle changes in light bringing out different aspects of the scene.

Reflections on the Trip

This trip was more than just a photography outing—it was a reminder of the simple joys of exploration. The calm of the river, the beauty of the bridge, and, yes, even the indulgence of a giant apple fritter all combined to create a great day.
